>> It's hard to imagine Beyonce Knowles is only turning 25, yet she is celebrating the milestone with the worldwide release of her second solo album – the appropriately titled "B'day" – on 4 September which, yep, is her 25th birthday. Beyonce co-produced, wrote and arranged the follow-up to 2003's Grammy-winning debut, "Dangerously In Love", with extra production coming from the likes of Rodney Jerkins, Rich Harrison, The Neptunes and Swizz Beatz. The Destiny’s Child co-founder will also be celebrating her 25th year with the release of the film "Dreamgirls", which opens in December. The film, loosely based on the career of The Supremes, charts a group whose smash hit musical sees them crossover from the world of R&B to pop. The film also stars Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx. Knowles courted controversy during filming after losing 20 pounds for the role. She told journalists at the Cannes film festival; "I fasted. I literally fasted. I drank a drink that gave me all the vitamins I needed and I didn't eat for 14 days and then I just drank protein shakes. It was hard, I felt weak, but I did it."

>> Rap mogul Jay-Z has sparked rumours he's planning to wed longtime girlfriend Beyonce Knowles after shedding pounds on a strict new diet. Sexy Beyonce reportedly suggested her burly boyfriend shed a few pounds after pointing out he was 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) lighter when they started dating in 2003. And the driven 36-year-old has taken the former Destiny's Child star's comments to heart - he has already shed 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms), according to insiders. A source tells American publication In Touch, "Jay-Z was never fat, but he was getting chunky. Beyonce likes a little meat on his bones, but not too much." According to the source, Jay-Z's biggest challenge was turning his back on his love for candy.

>> The release of Kelly Rowland's second solo album has been delayed until next year, so it doesn't clash with Destiny's Child bandmate Beyonce Knowles' next LP. Despite the disc being finished and supposedly ready for release, her manager Mathew Knowles - Beyonce's father - is holding it back until early 2007. Beyonce's new album is due for release later this year. Knowles Snr says, "We want to make sure our marketing strategy is a multi-tiered approach that capitalises on the synergies afforded by her other projects. "If she finds a better song or songs to add, we'll use them. But that's not the reason for changing the date. Everyone is pleased with the record Kelly made."

>> Beyonce plays a singer in Dreamgirls - a musical set in the 60s. People are saying it will win Oscars but Jamie's concerned for himself: "The toughest thing in the movie was to have to kiss Beyonce thinking that Jay-Z was going to kick my arse."

>> Singing sensation Beyonce Knowles lived on a diet of water with cayenne pepper to lose weight for her role in movie Dreamgirls. The 24-year-old star lost 20 pounds (9 kilograms), to play the super-svelte Deena Jones, the lead singer of The Dreamettes - a 1960s style group, loosely based on Diana Ross and The Supremes. She explains, "At the beginning (of filming), I was my normal weight. I actually gained a little bit, but then I lost 20 lbs when I went from young Deena to old Deena. "I wanted it to be something more than just make-up and hair. I wanted to see the change." The star tried to emulate the weight loss actor Tom Hanks endured for his film Cast Away. She explains, "I tried to do it Tom Hanks style, and I literally fasted because I had to drop it really fast in the film. "It was a sacrifice. Definitely a sacrifice, and it was difficult on the set. "Everyone was eating cookies and I'm drinking, literally, water and cayenne pepper. But it worked." The singer's mother, Tina, was relieved her daughter put weight back on following the shoot. She adds, "I've actually consciously and purposely gained a little back because I was too thin."

>> All eyes were on superstar singer Beyonce Knowles and actress Penelope Cruz at the Cannes Film Festival. The Former Destiny's Child star was in the South of France to offer promoter her new film musical, Dreamgirls, based on the story of The Supremes. Beyonce arrived in a stunning blue dress with gold trim with co-star Jamie Foxx. Eddie Murphy also stars in the film, about a trio of black female soul singers, which observers say is the story of The Supremes. After showing a group of critics a 20 minute preview of the film, Foxx said he had a good feeling about the film, which was greeted by ecstatic cheers by the group. He added: "They talk about the Oscar curse but I don't feel it right now. "To work with Eddie was to be able to work with a legend who never gets excited about anything. "When you see the whole movie it's going to knock your socks off." Sir Ian McKellen was also at the Dreamgirls film event and said he thought the movie was incredible. Beyonce, who plays the Diana Ross character who in the movie is called Deena Jones, said she "absolutely loved making the movie".

>> R&B superstars Destiny's Child, who recently disbanded after a string of chart-topping hits, won a special achievement award for their contribution to international pop music at the MTV Asia Awards 2006 in Thailand's capital, Bangkok. Former band member Kelly Rowland accepted the award on behalf of the Grammy-winning trio and thrilled some 4,600 fans at Bangkok's Siam Paragon with the first-ever live performance of her upcoming debut solo single, Gotsta Go. Rowland and her ex-bandmates, Beyonce Knowles and Michelle Williams, disbanded last year to pursue solo careers, but their MTV Asia Special Achievement in Music award was warranted for "their contribution to the music world and their immeasurable impact on pop culture," MTV Asia said in a statement on its website.

>> To say Jamie Foxx is a busy man would be an understatement at this point in time. That's because the Oscar-winning actor/R&B singer has done everything in past months from busting guns with Colin Farrell to kissing Beyonce. However, he doesn't want fans to get it twisted. "I play Beyonce's husband," Foxx told Hot 97 host Angie Martinez about his role in the impending Dreamgirls movie, which also features Eddie Murphy. "Respect to Jay-Z. I don’t want any problems." In addition to playing Beyonce's husband, Foxx will also be the manager of an all-girl group in the film. Foxx also mentioned that fans will be taken aback by Beyonce's stirring performance. However, before Dreamgirls, which is slated for a Dec. 21 release, fans can look out for Foxx in Miami Vice and performing on Hot 97's Summer Jam concert stage.

>> Sean Garrett, who Jay-Z nicknamed The Pen of the industry, is at it again. The four-time Grammy Award-nominated songwriter, who penned Usher's, "Yeah" and Ciara's, "Goodies," has been busy helping to complete Beyonce's new album. "We knocked out about 10 songs in about eight days on her (Beyonce's) new album," Garrett revealed to Vibe.com. "Beyonce Knowles is hands-down one of the best, if not the best in the industry. As you will hear we just took her sh** to a whole other level." Garrett is especially excited about Beyonce's second single, which he wrote and co-produced with Swizz Beatz and B herself. Although Garrett felt like it was too early to reveal the name of that second single, he's not bashful in saying it's going to be a huge record. "The second single is absolutely fu***** amazing. I can guarantee you it's going to be bigger than anything I have ever done," Garrett said confidently. "The girls are going to love it and the dudes are going to go crazy. It’s a Club Banger. The subject is soo stupid that the girls are going to lose their minds."

>> Beyonce Knowles claims Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross have been the biggest influences on her career. The 'Bootylicious' singer, who plays a Diana Ross-style character in her upcoming movie 'Dreamgirls', hailed the singing legends for their natural talent. She is quoted in Britain's Hello magazine as saying: "I chose those people because they were successful singers and they didn't have to act financially or for any other reason. They did it because they wanted to." The former Destiny's Child star - who played racy Foxxy Cleopatra in hit comedy 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me'- also confessed she would love to have a non-singing film part one day. She said: "I think it's great when you're able to act and sing. But I do eventually want to do a movie where I'm not a singer."

>> So Sick singer Ne-Yo knew he'd become a big star when Beyonce Knowles dragged him onto the dancefloor at a party just so she could sing along to his hit. The R&B sensation was thrilled when he was invited to rap mogul Jay-Z birthday party and couldn't believe his luck when the DJ played his huge hit - and that was just the beginning of an amazing night. He recalls, "The song came on and Beyonce was, like, so happy. "Everybody was kind of dancing in the circle, and, like, the crowd kind of surrounded me and her, and she sang my song to me... That was such an honour." And Knowles isn't his only superstar fan - Natalie Cole and Diana Ross are both So Sick lovers.

>> Rumor has it that the ongoing beef between rapper Cam'ron and Def Jam CEO Jay-Z may have spilled over into Jay's relationship with Beyoncé. "Cam has been text-messaging Beyoncé like crazy," says a source. "He's been asking her out, and dissing Jay-Z. He's been telling her she should be with a real man like him." Cam'ron, or Killa Cam, is best known for being a former drug dealer from Harlem who parlayed his lyrical skills into a lucrative music contract. It's safe to assume that this is more of a blow intended for Jay-Z, because the cruddy rapper has been known to try his best to get Jay's goat. After splitting with the mogul's former label, Rocafella Records, Cam'ron said in his song "You Got It" that Jay-Z looked like the puppets in "Fraggle Rock." "I open up the Daily News," he raps. "How's the 'King of New York' rockin' sandals with jeans?/Open-toed sandals? You talk about you a '80s baby/you 37 years old/you was born in 1968."

The pop superstar, who split Destiny's Child with fellow members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland earlier this year, is currently starring in cinemas across the globe in the movie remake of "The Pink Panther". However, she is expected to get back to music in the coming months, with Sean Garrett, who is working on the new material, reporting that Beyonce is putting in 12-hour days on the LP. Garrett told MTV that "the songs are sick", before claiming: "She's in a place I've never seen her in before. She's very vibrant, very happy, and her mindset is incredible. She's in a zone."

>> Hollywood star Danny Glover has hailed forthcoming movie Dreamgirls one of the most powerful films ever seen. The Lethal Weapon actor insists the movie, based on the award-winning Broadway musical, will be talked about for years to come. Glover stars alongside Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy in the tale of a black all-girl singing trio from Chicago who are propelled to fame, and he is certain the performances will match the calibre of seminal race movie The Color Purple, in which he also starred. He says, "Dreamgirls is something very special. "It has such a strong appeal, even 25 years since its release on stage. "This is going to be quite powerful. In 20 years time they're going to be talking about it in the way they talk about The Color Purple."

>> American pop star Christina Milian has hit out at critics who claim her image is copied from fellow singer Beyonce Knowles. The sexy 24-year-old insists she has never been inspired by the Destiny's Child star, and claims the comparison is only made because they share similar physical features. Speaking to AllHipHop.com she rants, "Do people think that every light skin black girl that has blonde hair has to say that she wants to be like her? "That's not the case. And that's wack, because people don't realise they're stereotyping us. "It's unfortunate because I feel like it's ongoing for me. My career has been a thirteen year process. I didn't even know about her until five years ago. "My career, and every move that I make, I try my hardest to set myself apart from everyone else. And I don't even think it's a matter of trying; I am a different person. "When I make music, I'm not listening to (Beyonce's) music and saying I want to make a song like that or I want to dress like her. "Everyone dresses their own way, has their own style. It's sad that people have to make comparisons based on looks. "I can be very real with you; in no way, shape, or form have I ever tried to be like anybody else.

>> Beyonce Knowles is amongst the stars offering their support to Whitney Houston after the singer was reported as living in squalor as a heavy drug user. The former Destiny's Child star was said to be shocked by recent photos picturing Houston looking in a bad state, with a journalist for the Sun newspaper reporting how the former global superstar has squandered much of her fortune on crack cocaine. "Beyonce will do what it takes to sort Whitney out, an unnamed source tells the Daily Star newspaper this week. "She needs her friends around her and Beyonce would never give up on anybody." Whitney Houston was one of the biggest stars of the 1990's, with over 100m in album sales, but her drug use and public spats with husband Bobby Brown have been the topics grabbing headlines in recent years. Mary J. Blige has also voiced her support to Houston, saying she is praying for the R&B singer, "I'm saddened by the whole thing. Whitney is technically the best vocalist in the business. Whitney will come through. I have every faith that she will make a breakthrough. I'm just praying for her now."

>> Beyonce Knowles' father Matthew has challenged Maerican Idol judge Simon Cowell to a duel which will see the pair battle to create the hottest new female singer/group. Knowles is still smarting about comments Brit Cowell made about his chart-topping daughter last year (05). Acid-tongued Cowell described Beyonce as "not sexy" and "not a great singer". The American, who is his daughter's manager and put together Destiny's Child, made the challenge backstage during the live taping of Tuesday's (28 February 2006) American Idol show after hearing another of Cowell's criticisms. Finalist Paris Bennett received rave reviews from judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul for her rendition of Beyonce's song Work It Out, but Cowell was less than impressed. He said, "I am sorry to put a damper on everything... You know what it reminded me of? It's like a little girl pretending to be Beyonce. Whoopee." Knowles fired back telling the New York Daily News, "I challenge him to put together a female group or female solo artist, and I will do the same, and then let the audience decide which is better. "It is even more clear to me that Simon wouldn't know a hit song, image or talent if it hit him in the face."
