Beyonce 'Very Proud' To Open Cosmetology Center In Brooklyn
posted on 06 Mar 2010 by Klaudia0 Comments
>> On Friday (March 5), Beyoncé spoke in downtown Brooklyn, New York, at the Phoenix House, a nonprofit recovery center for drug and alcohol addiction, to unveil a project she and her mother, Tina, have dreamed of and worked on for years: the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center. According to the press release, the program is "a seven-month cosmetology training course for adult men and women." L'Oréal has donated all the products to be used at the center, and their spokeswoman Beyoncé, along with her mother, have pledged to donate $100,000 annually. After brief remarks by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Tina Knowles, among others, Beyoncé graciously took to the podium to explain both her ties to the house — she first visited in 2007 as part of research for her role as Etta James in "Cadillac Records" — and her hopes for the program. While Phoenix House provides varied vocational training, "I felt like they needed something that was geared towards women — something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House," Beyoncé explained about why she chose to fund a beauty school. Her mother also owned and operated a salon in Knowles' hometown of Houston. "I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice," she continued about her experiences growing up around a beauty parlor. She was close to tears as she added, "Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation." B admired the strength of the women and men who've chosen to go to Phoenix House, citing the stigma placed on the disease of drug and alcohol abuse, and that while none of them chose to be addicts, they have all "chosen to get better." As the speech ended and a brief set of photo ops — including the cutting of a ceremonial ribbon — began, Beyoncé took to the microphone one last time. "It's a very proud day for me and my mother," she beamed. Read more...

posted on 05 Mar 2010 by Klaudia0 Comments
>> Hip-hop's first couple, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, finally made it to the White House ... only for a visit that is. Jay and B visited the nation's First Family at the White house on Wednesday (March 3) while in town during a stop on the "BP3" tour, where he performed at the city's Verizon Center. A White House official said the rapper -- alongside his wife/singer Beyonce, her mother Tina Knowles, singer Trey Songz, and industry veteran Kevin Liles -- toured the residence. Then later, Jay actually had a quick, unscheduled visit with President Obama, said the Washington Post. The hip-hop superstar shared news of the visit with fans during his show that evening, before wishing a White House staffer's child happy birthday. "I don't know where you are, but happy birthday. I just came from the White House. And your pop works there. He said, 'Happy Birthday,' " Jay said. In an interview with Interview magazine last month, Jay reflected on his rise from the streets all the way to the White House, saying it "was crazy" that he could even meet with these powerful people. "For me, being with [President] Obama or having dinner with Bill Clinton ... It's crazy," he said. "It's mind-blowing, because where I come from is just another world. We were just ignored by politicians -- by America in general."

Beyoncé & Jay-Z Definitely Make a Great Aunt & Uncle Team
posted on 02 Mar 2010 by Klaudia0 Comments
>> Beyoncé Knowles may not have any children with her hubby Jay-Z just yet, but by the way she and Jay-Z care for their nephew, perhaps they’re practicing for when they have a child of their own! Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles sang her sister and brother-in-law’s praises as aunt and uncle to OK! recently, saying they’re both very good, except maybe when it comes to bedtimes! Solange chatted with OK! about how her sister is an aunt, and although she doesn’t know if Beyoncé wants to have a baby, she certainly sounds like she’s ready for one! One particularly sweet moment at the Grammys this year was when Beyoncé’s nephew, Daniel, was pulled up on the stage with Jay-Z and Rihanna. When he was asked if he wanted to say anything, he very politely said, “No, thank you.” “I was a proud mom that he used his manners,” his mother Solange told OK!. “Because anything could have come out of that mouth.” Having her young son put on the spot and not knowing what he would say was an anxious moment for the mother! But her son was in good hands as his aunt Beyoncé’s guest. “Very good. She’s very hands-on,” Solange said of how Beyoncé is as an aunt. “I’ve had two weekends where I’ve been able to hand him over, and it’s been very nerve-racking for me, but she does a great job. The bedtimes we got to work on. “Sometimes I’ll call expecting him to be asleep, but he’s still up,” she adds on how her sister lets Daniel stay up too late. Even she admits, that’s kind of what aunts are for!As for Jay-Z? “Very good uncle,” Solange said, adding that he’s a “pretty cool” uncle to have. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have so much fun caring for their nephew that they actually like it when they get to watch him for a weekend. “They actually request him more than I’m willing to give him,” Solange told OK! But Solange said she has “no idea” whether it’s inspiring her sister to have a baby. Sure sounds like they both would make great parents, though!
'Remember Me' Writer Confirms 'A Star Is Born' Remake
posted on 01 Mar 2010 by Klaudia0 Comments
>> This past weekend, New York-based journalists had an opportunity to sit down with the various players involved in bringing the Robert Pattinson/Emilie de Ravin-starring "Remember Me" to theaters. One of those people is writer Will Fetters, who was just confirmed last week as the writer for an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' "The Lucky One." Fetters also confirmed another project that he's working on, in an interview with Cinematical. A remake of the musical "A Star Is Born," which is something that "The Notebook" director Nick Cassavetes was reported as interested in January. That was true, as was the rumored interest in having Beyonce and Russell Crowe take the film's starring roles. "I am doing 'A Star is Born' remake with Nick Cassavetes, also for Warner Brothers," he said. "I was with Nick on Thursday. As far as I know, there's no contracts or anything, but Nick wants [Beyoncé] and I think Russell Crowe is another name that's starting to circle, but there's no contracts, there's just talks so far." Fetters also indicated that a straight adaptation is not the goal here. Instead, the remake will be focused on "trying to reconcile [the] modern music industry and how this, what is an iconic tale of a star's rising and a star falling, can be kind of told in the modern day." The hope is that the modernized story -- which Fetters says features "a lot of new" -- provides an accurate picture of the present state of the recording industry even as it tells the classic story of the comings and goings of fame. Even if Crowe and Beyonce aren't cast, Fetters also confirmed that the plan is to stick with that general age range. We'll surely be hearing more about this one soon.

The Young Forever rapper opened the North American leg of his BP3 tour with Beyonce, ean "P Diddy" Combs and Alex Rodriguez all in the audience, and afterwards the group went out to Scarpetta in the Fontainebleau, where a source told The New York Post "they chowed on bowls of spaghetti". But Jay-Z, 40, and his pals must have still had an appetite as after moving on to party at club LIV, they reportedly ordered more food from the restaurant.
Lady Gaga Promises 'Telephone' Video 'Is Coming'

>> The "Telephone" video is coming! Lady Gaga took to her Twitter to let her little monsters know that the much-anticipated "Telephone" video is on its way. Although no date was announced, she did say that the video, shot last month in California and directed by Jonas Åkerlund, is currently being edited. "Telephone is coming I promise! Still editing. I want it to be perfect," she tweeted. "The Haus has dubbed her a 'masterpiece.' " While co-stars Beyoncé (who also worked with Gaga on "Video Phone") and Semi Precious Weapons have been singing the video's praises, Gaga recently gave her fans some hints as to what they can expect from the clip. "It was really amazing," she told Johnjay and Rich on Phoenix's 104.7 KISS FM last month, according to Rapup.com. "Beyoncé's incredible and I had a lot of time with her, so I was able to put her in quite a bit of the video." She added that this video is a sequel to her "Paparazzi" video, which was also shot by Åkerlund. "I feel so bad for the 'Bad Romance' video 'cause the 'Telephone' video's so much better," she said. "[Beyoncé's] really a great friend of mine. We have a lot of fun working together. We're so very different in our approaches, but somehow when we come together it's really magical. I'm very excited for everyone to see the video. "What I like about it is it's a real true pop event," she added. "And when I was younger, I was always excited when there was a big giant event happening in pop music and that's what I wanted this to be."
