| The Making of Beyoncé's 'Single Ladies' |

| >> By now you should know Beyoncé's infectious tune by heart. It's the get-the-party-started anthem of the year, the fun kiss-off track that got Justin Timberlake dancing in a leotard on SNL, The Chipettes shaking their hips in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and fans of every age, shape and size posting tributes to YouTube. Nominated for three Grammys, Beyoncé's hit "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," from her third solo album, I Am ... Sasha Fierce, has taken the world by storm. Peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard chart and staying on top for four non-consecutive weeks, the single dominated Hot 100 Airplay, topped U.K., Canadian and Australian charts and, with over 3,000,000 digital downloads, became the singer's highest-selling song. But do you know the story behind the music and the moves? The Lyrics "Single Ladies," conceptualized by singer-songwriter The-Dream, was recorded after Beyoncé secretly married Jay-Z. "It was the only public statement that they ever made about marriage," says the song's producer Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. "When we went into the studio she didn't have a ring on or anything, because at that point they were still really hiding it. That's where Dream got that concept from." Read more... |

| >> Beyonce Knowles' mother "gets a kick" out of reading gossip about her daughter. The 'Sweet Dreams' singer has revealed her mother Tina is obsessed with racy tabloid magazines, often buying up to 20 at a time while Beyonce stands next to her "praying" no one will see her. The 28-year-old star said: "You know what? My mother loves to read celeb magazines, especially the racy tabloids! I can't believe it sometimes. She'll go to this magazine store in New York and buy 20 magazines while I'm standing next to her. "I'm just praying nobody recognises me while my mom is stacking up those magazines! But she loves reading the gossip about celebs and movie stars. "I tell her a lot of the stuff isn't true, but she says she gets a kick out of reading all the nonsense that gets printed, even about me!" Even though Tina – who filed for divorce from Beyonce’s father Matthew this month - likes to laugh about the false stories written about her daughter, Beyonce couldn't cope without her, particularly when she is on tour. The star added: "My mom and my cousin are the leaders of my entourage. They're with me to help me stay grounded and relax and avoid going out on the town, which is something I rarely do anyway." | ![]() |

| >> It should come as no surprise that on the first day of sales, the $1,600 VVIP tickets for Beyonce’s concert were sold out at bmobile’s Brian Lara Promenade store in Port of Spain. The event is part of the superstar’s I AM... World Tour extension to South America for a series of live concerts, beginning on February 4, 2010. The two-week run will end at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on February 18. Since the tour was launched in March, fans the world over have been rushing for tickets to see the Grammy Award winner perform live. Tickets for what would be Trinidad and Tobago’s first major concert for 2010 went on sale online and at all bmobile and TSTT locations, as well as bmobile and TSTT authorised partners yesterday. Graeme Suite, manager of media relations at Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), assured that the company was in the process of restocking the $1,600 tickets at the Port of Spain outlet. Although he was unable to say how many VVIP tickets were initially sold, it is being anticipated that 25,000 patrons will attend the concert. ’A lot of people are excited about the prospects about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and people are making active plans to be part of this unique experience. ’Many people have been enquiring about the tickets at our various stores and we have been receiving a lot of calls as well,’ he said. Suite said VIP tickets for the ’Ash Thursday’ event, which are priced $1,000, and general admission tickets, which cost $450, were also being bought. This is the first time the internationally-renowned entertainer will perform live concerts in Trinidad and South America. More information about the event can be found on the website bpartofit.com or by calling the local toll-free number 800-TSTT. In addition to the local an overseas number, 1-868-625-2534 has also been set up. Recently the I AM... The couple, who married in April 2008, are to take on both of their surnames in order to keep Beyonce's parental line from dying out, reports imdb.com. Jay-Z whose real name is Shawn Carter will now be known as Shawn Knowles-Carter, while Beyonce is to become Beyonce Knowles-Carter. "They want to keep Knowles because Beyonce's parents didn't have any sons and they're keen to keep the name going on, especially if they don't produce any children themselves," said a source. | ![]() |

Country music band Lady Antebellum and R&B singer Maxwell will also be among those performing live on the music industry's biggest night on January 31, when the Grammy Awards are handed out in a live televised show, broadcaster CBS said on Tuesday. Beyonce leads the field of Grammy contenders with 10 nominations, including the coveted album of the year, record of the year and song of the year for her hit "Single Ladies." Swift, 20, whose "Fearless" album is the biggest seller in the United States in 2009 but who has never won a Grammy, follows with eight nominations. Hip hop band Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell -- making a return to the music business after an eight-year hiatus -- are each up for six awards. Lady Antebellum is competing for two awards in the best country song ("I Run to You") and best country band categories. | >> Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, has filed for divorce from the pop diva's father and manager, Mathew Knowles. Tina Knowles began legal proceedings Nov. 11, according to documents filed with the Harris County Court Clerk. She launched the House of Dereon clothing line with Beyonce in 2006. "The decision to end our marriage is an amicable one. We remain friends, parents, and business partners," the couple said in a statement provided to The Associated Press on Friday. "If anyone is expecting an ugly messy fight, they will be sadly disappointed. We ask for your respect of our privacy as we handle this matter." The divorce filing came about a month after Mathew Knowles was named in a paternity suit. Los Angeles resident Alexsandra Wright claims in the lawsuit that he is the father of her unborn child. Tina and Mathew Knowles wed in 1980. In addition to 27-year-old Beyonce, they have another daughter, 23-year-old singer Solange. | ![]() |

| >> Ever since superstar singer and actress Beyonce performed a string of concerts this past July and August at Encore Theater in the Wynn, rumors have swirled that she would become a new resident entertainer there. Well, it’s getting closer and closer! We were the first in early November to report that negotiations between Beyonce’s dad and manager Matthew Knowles and hotel tycoon Steve Wynn were well underway. Then at Thanksgiving, that was followed by reports saying the deal had been done, with Las Vegas gossip guru Norm Clarke spelling out details of a signed contract. Despite the resort’s denials, we can now confirm that the official announcement will come right after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, which means right after new resident headliner Garth Brooks completes his next four shows over the Jan. 1 start-the-year-right weekend. Beyonce herself is looking at dates for Las Vegas after her 90-city world tour ends in South America on Feb. 20. Voted as “Best Concert Tour of the Year” as of Oct. 1, Jay-Z’s glamorous wife had grossed $53 million at box offices across the world. When she returns to the Wynn, her all-female band Sugar Mammas will back her up. The DVD of her alter-ego Sasha Fierce concerts shot at the Wynn July 30-Aug. 2 has been a hit since its release. | ![]() |

>> Beyoncé Knowles is aiming to light a much-needed fire under the beleaguered fragrance business this February with her first scent, Beyoncé Heat. Industry sources estimate it could do $100 million at retail globally in its first year on counter. At least half of that figure is expected to come from U.S. sales. And the entertainer — who is up for 10 Grammys on Jan. 31 — is more than up for the challenge. She can’t wait to get her scent into the hands of her fans. “I’m so happy with it,” she said during an exclusive interview with WWD. “I’ve been working on it for a while now. I was on tour for a year, and I have meet-and-greets with fans. I’ve never in my life gotten so many compliments. Coty has their own testing, but that was my testing! The fans loved it. They were like, ‘I love that, I’m getting that, why isn’t it out right now? I need it!” said Knowles with a laugh. Her fans’ passion helped spark the development process. “What inspires me [both in music and product creation] is love, passion — something that makes me want to be better, to do more,” she said. “Knowing that I have people who look to me — because thank God I’ve had so many great opportunities — I don’t take it for granted. Young girls can see me, and think, ‘Wow. Maybe if I work hard and I’m focused, I can do the same thing.’ And they absolutely can. It’s not just about me being a singer. It’s about knowing that I have people who look at my life, and to know I can inspire them inspires me.” For the fragrance’s name, Knowles drew from her past tours. “A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat.’ Also, red is one of my favorite colors, as is gold,” she noted; both colors frame the bottle. “So then we thought of making the bottle look like it’s on fire. I love antique bottles — my mother had a collection of them when I was growing up. I wanted something with an antique yet modern feeling. Even with my wardrobe, I always try to find things that have a little bit of something vintage, yet still timeless and classic. The bottle, I felt, was a great mixture of the two.” Read more... |

| >> It looks like Roland Mouret might just love Beyonce as much as we do... The French designer has revealed that Bey was behind his decision to start raising the hemline on his covetable form-fitting frocks. The French designer recently began to stray from his tried-and-tested style of signature calf-skimming dresses - releasing a series of frocks for net-a-porter.com with a decidedly higher hem. ‘In a funny way, the first one that did that for me was Beyonce,' he told FabSugar.com. ‘This season, where my length was mid-calf, she asked to raise the hem.' ‘I said, ‘You really inspire me, because it's nice to see that kind of attitude,'' he continued. The designer du jour - who counts Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Heidi Klum among his famous fans - admits that his original longer-length designs were created for women who ‘don't want to show the legs, because they don't like the leg' - but that the new style gives women the option to flash their pins if they want to. | ![]() |

>> With a sweeping fringe covering her eyes, singer Beyoncé looked as if she wanted to be alone. Seen leaving New York nightspot Butter, the 28-year-old superstar cut an almost coy figure as she hid beneath her poker-straight hairdo. But her new style was contradicted by a tiny leather trimmed bodycon dress that revealed plenty of flesh. She walked out ahead of husband Jay Z, 40, who brought up the rear in a laidback hip-hop styled outfit of denims, trainers and leather jacket. Clearly he was feeling the cold a little bit more than his diva wife who left her jacket off her shoulders for the walk to their waiting car. The pair, who have been married for over a year and a half, attended the album release party for singer Robin Thicke at Manhattan nightspot Butter. ![]() |
