| >> The first decade of the new millennium produced some amazing albums, CDs that should go down with the best works of art. You might not find those albums on this list — which doesn't mean this list isn't the best of the decade. But for an album to make the cut, it had to be more than just something to appreciate and put on a shelf. It had to be something you couldn't live without, that you had on your go-to playlist, that you listened to not just the year it came out ... but in the years since. Best albums of the decade: 1. "Denials, Delusions and Decisions," Jaguar Wright 2. "Confessions," Usher 3. "Mama's Gun," Erykah Badu 4. "The College Dropout," Kanye West 5. "Back to Black," Amy Winehouse 6. "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" 50 Cent 7. "B'day," Beyonce: Beyonce could have chosen to make "Dangerously in Love 2" for her sophomore debut. Instead, she took a musical risk by trying out different sonic styles, from the futuristic funk of "Green Light" to the acoustic brilliance of "Irreplaceable." With "B'day" Beyonce established herself not only as this decade's most important hitmaker, but also established her artistic heft. 8. "Testimony: Vol 1. Life and Relationship," India.Arie 9. "The Chocolate Factory," R. Kelly 10. "The Marshall Mathers LP," Eminem: |

Mainly because she’s made pop music fun again. I love Christina Aguilera, I think she’s incredible. And Beyoncé is the biggest star we’ve seen in 20 years. And I was very negative about her once—far, far too early on in her career. |

| >> After taking the world by storm with her memorable appearance on Jay-Z’s triumphant “Empire State of Mind,” Alicia Keys has now switched gears for a highly anticipated collabo with Beyonce on her forthcoming LP, “The Element of Freedom.” Speaking on the track from her World Aids Benefit concert in New York City on Wednesday night (December 2), Keys spoke exclusively with BET News Correspondent Sharon Carpenter about “Put It In A Love Song.” The track, which is slated to appear on the singer's December 15th release was constructed out of pure fun and completely organic, according to Keys. “Someone’s in London, someone’s in NYC and you send it via internet and they send it back," Keys told Carpenter. "You’re feeling it, you talk on the phone, but the real way is to really be in the studio together, which we were.” “We just had a party in the studio," she continued. "It was such a genuine energy, we clicked, we connected. We’ve known each other for a lot of years and obviously this is the first time that we’ve been able to collaborate, so it was unforgettable. Can’t wait for you to hear it.” Though contributors and producers for “Put It In A Love Song” have yet to be revealed, Keys assured Carpenter that her and Beyonce’s tag team, in addition to the song's elements, provide a great ambiance. “The song, when you hear it, there’s just a great mixture,” Keys explained. “It just felt like….the two of us together would be a the perfect mixture on this song, big pianos, big beats, ill flows and a great hook.” In regards to matching schedules, Alicia believes fate was the common denominator that brought the two songbirds together. “I reached out and she was like, ‘You’re never going to believe it, but I came back to New York those exact three days you said.’ It was just meant to be. There’s no other way that this was going to happen.” Alicia’s “The Element of Freedom” is set to hit stores December 15 via J Records. | ![]() |

| >> Beyoncé's hit single 'Halo' was not originally penned for Leona Lewis, songwriter Ryan Tedder has insisted. The One Republic frontman admitted that he only tentatively offered the track to Lewis after Beyoncé initially took a long time to record it. "There was this huge scandal that originally 'Halo' was meant to go to Leona. That was never the case," he told Alex and Lucy on Key 103's In:Demand. "I'm putting that rumour to bed right now. That song was written for Beyoncé. What happened was that Beyoncé waited long enough to record that song that I had no communication with her and didn't know if she was going to do it or not. "I thought this would be a brilliant first single for Leona, which it would have. When you have a song as special as 'Halo', you don't want anyone else to sit on it. So sometimes you have to pull the whole, 'Well, I'm going to get someone else on it', to prove a point. "What I did was foolishly say to Leona's camp, 'I have it on hold for another A-list artist and I'm pretty sure they'll take it, but if they don't, I just want to know if you like it enough to consider it.' "I sent it to them and they flipped on it. They loved it and instantly said they wanted to do it. I was like, 'Wait, wait, wait, no, it's not free yet! It's just in case." Beyoncé reached No. 5 with the single on the Billboard Hot 100 in January. | ![]() |

From Thom Yorke and Flea to Ian Brown and Rihanna to Lil Wayne and Weezer, 2009 has had our minds wondering and genres cohabitating. And now…Beyonce and Of Montreal? In an interview with The Guardian (via Prefix), the former Destiny’s Child star explained that her recent indie-rock flirtations aren’t just for kicks; she wants to get involved. “There’s so many people I’d like to work with still, but I’d like to maybe go outside of the box,” she said. “My sister [Solange] has put me on to bands like Of Montreal and some other different types of artists. I would love to do something like that on my next album.” Well, Beyonce, your friends at Paste did some legwork for you. Turns out, Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes is game. “I fell in love with Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and, since then, I’ve always kept an ear out for what she releases,” Barnes said in a statement to Paste. “I wasn’t that familiar with her Destiny’s Child stuff, until Solange played me some of the deep cuts. I was truly blown away by the vocal arrangements/performances. I think most people don’t realize what an amazingly great singer Beyonce is. She is so much more than a pop star. There is a reason why she’s the most popular and beloved female vocalist of our time. I would be fully psyched to work with her.” Your move, Beyonce. Let’s do this. | ![]() |

| >> An eight-year-old boy was starstruck when stunning diva Beyoncé picked him out of a crowd to perform a duet – then gave him a kiss. Ellis Cliffe, from Little Acton in North Wales, has dreamed of meeting the Crazy in Love singer since sending her Valentine’s Day chocolates at the age of just four. And now he has become the envy of his classmates and grown men all over the world after Beyoncé declared her love for him during her sold-out gig at Manchester’s MEN Arena. Mum Julie, who took him to the concert last Wednesday night, said: “It’s only just sinking in what happened – he was just looking up at her in awe! Julie and Elis, who were seated on the floor of the arena, had struggled to see the star as she bootyshaked across the stage. But during a crowd surge, Julie spotted a chance to get Elis close to his pop idol. “She was on the centre stage and moved across to a little stage,” said Julie. “Beyoncé did a couple of numbers on the little stage. She had this towel that she had been using all through the night.” As Beyoncé stalked across the stage, looking to pick out a member of the crowd to speak to, Julie managed to catch her eye and point towards Elis. “She was walking around the stage. I managed to catch her eye and pointed to Elis. She made eye contact a couple of times, walked down the steps and said ‘Hi, what’s your name?’ Elis told her his name and she shouted to the crowd ‘Give it up for Elis!’ and they all clapped and cheered.” It was then that the smitten schoolboy’s dream came true. “She asked him ‘Do you know my name?’, then she started singing Say My Name and Elis would reply ‘Beyoncé!’” said Julie. “Then she said ‘I love you Elis’ and gave him a kiss on the forehead and gave him her towel.” Elis left the arena feeling like a superstar. He was so excited that when his school took his class swimming the next day, he didn’t want to get in the water because it would wash Beyoncé’s kiss away. But without any photographs from the concert, his friends needed some convincing. But Elis’ experience of a lifetime was captured by a fellow fan at the arena that night – who happened to be a student living nearby. “Nobody believed him because we didn’t have a photograph of the two of them together,” said Julie. But a girl who is a student at Wrexham University had been in the crowd and posted a video on YouTube. Beyoncé’s kiss may have been washed away, but Elis is refusing to wash the handtowel she used to dry her face and the clothes he wore that night. “I feel like a superstar ,” said Elis. “It’s not every day you get kissed by a pop star.” | ![]() |

| >> Beyonce clashed with Columbia Records bosses over her debut solo album Dangerously In Love - because label executives were convinced none of the tracks had the potential to become hit singles. The former Destiny's Child star was left speechless when she presented her finished project to Columbia executives, only to be told to go back into the studio and start again. But the R&B superstar refused to change her tracklisting and her instincts were proved correct when the disc became a worldwide smash upon its release in 2003 - going on to win five Grammy Awards the following year (04). She says, "In 2003 I had my first solo album. But when I played it through for my record label, they told me I didn't have one hit on my album. Dangerously In Love, (and singles) Naughty Girl, Me, Myself and I, Baby Boy and Crazy In Love. "They told me I didn't have one hit. I guess they were kinda right, I had five." Beyonce's 2004 Grammy success matched the likes of Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys for most wins by a female artist in a single night. | ![]() |

| >> Beyonce is said to be worth over $300 million but when she went shopping in Dublin this week she was intent on bargain hunting. The superstar was seen on Grafton Street, the main shopping street in Dublin and bought a $100 black and silver sequined skirt along with a $100 black and white jumpsuit. Sources said there was no diva-like behavior, no demand the store be closed while she was shopping, she was said to be friendly and nice to everyone she met. "Beyonce came in for about a half an hour and was accompanied by two bodyguards," one onlooker told the Evening Herald. "She wasn't in the least bit precious and didn't look for any extra attention from the staff because of who she was. "She was very nice and courteous to the other shoppers who were there at the time and seemed very impressed by the clothes they had. "Beyonce was saying to her minders that the outfits would be perfect on stage or when she has to make any public appearances and told the staff 'the more glitter and sparkles the better'," they added. The star returned to Ireland for two sell-out appearances at the O2 arena in Dublin last Sunday and Monday night, and went to Belfast on Tuesday. | ![]() |

| >> The American pop star Beyoncé Knowles arrived unannounced at a London Topshop yesterday to buy leggings from the Icelandic E-Label brand. E-Label has only been available at Topshop for a few weeks, so the Icelandic designers and Topshop workers were equally surprised to see the Destiny’s Child star. Shop workers offered to close the store for Beyoncé and her bodyguards, but she declined the offer. Former band mate Michelle Williams has also been a high profile E-Label customer, with at least six items purchased from the brand. Michelle Williams has often been in the spotlight for her taste in clothes and was voted the best dressed woman of 2009 by the readers of People Magazine. E-Label designers Asta Kristjansdottir, Heba Hallgrimsdottir and Asgrimur Mar Fridriksson modified Williams’s clothes personally so that she can wear them in concert. That a small Icelandic fashion label had been picked up by Topshop in London had already made Kristjansdottir and colleagues extremely proud. But for Beyoncé to personally come and purchase their leggings within just a few weeks: “We were of course very pleased; but also extremely honoured on behalf of the label,” Kristjansdottir told Frettabladid. | ![]() |

| >> Two of today's biggest divas, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, got sexy in the latter's "Video Phone" clip, with Gaga even embracing her inner B for the shoot. But the duo conquer a slightly more serious theme — Lady Gaga's fear of suffocation — on her song "Telephone," off her new LP, The Fame Monster. Gaga, despite her penchant for making dance-floor-friendly pop, said she actually has a hard time just letting loose and having fun. Why? "Fear of suffocation — something that I have or fear is never being able to enjoy myself," she told MTV News. " 'Cause I love my work so much, I find it really hard to go out and have a good time." Although it may be hard to believe because of her glitzy persona, the singer insists her life does not consist of jumping from nightclub to nightclub. "I don't go to nightclubs," she said. "You don't see pictures of me falling out of a club drunk. I don't go — and that's because I usually go and then, you know, a whiskey and a half into it, I got to get back to work." And she told us the phone on the song isn't just a physical phone, but also that person in her head telling her to keep working harder and harder. "That's my fear — that the phone's ringing and my head's ringing," she explained. "Whether it's a telephone or it's just the thoughts in your head, that's another fear." | ![]() |
| Beyoncé: artist of the decade |

| >> It was 10 years ago that Beyoncé Knowles announced herself to the world, with the Destiny's Child hit Independent Women. Since then the 28-year-old singer has made the decade's best single, delivered the greatest live show on earth, sung for President Obama and emerged as our last true star. Why Beyoncé? Why this stunning 28-year-old singer/performer/actress/businesswoman from Texas now married to one of the decade's other biggest stars, and worth something like $87m a year to boot, and not, well, take your pick...? Because she made not one but two of the decade's greatest singles, with Crazy in Love and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), not to mention her hits with Destiny's Child; and this was the decade when singles – particularly R&B singles – regained their status as pop's favourite medium. (But her three solo albums? Pretty fabulous, too.) Because at a time when the ubiquity of TV talent shows put the onus on those who could cut it live more than ever, she and not any superannuated rock star was arguably the greatest live performer of the past 10 years. Because her achievements chime with bigger narratives. Who was it got to sing for President Obama and Michelle at their first dance after his inauguration, after all? Because she is a brand, but says she isn't, and because in this age of Twitter and the paparazzi, she might be a global phenomenon but in the course of 10 full years Mrs Jay-Z, as she might also be known, has kept her mystery. And because – just possibly – she helped introduce a new word into the Oxford English Dictionary: bootylicious. She looks to have it all, and if the future sees as much flux as this decade, then perhaps we won't be seeing so many more of her kind, either. We met at one of her O2 gigs in London in mid-November. She'd come off stage only minutes earlier but I was more exhausted by the show – in a good way – than she looked to be. It was time to work again: time to shake the journalist's hand. But she was charm itself, too. We had spoken at length a week earlier. Read more... | ![]() |

"I'm thankful for my life, I'm thankful for my health and my family and for music and for having the best job in the world," she said. In a performance made during her I Am... Tour, this summer at the Encore Theater at Wynn, Las Vegas, Knowles shares the inspiration behind many of her hits. "People don't know that these songs meant more than just the songs that are catchy," she said. "It's my life." Beyonce said the hit "Dangerously in Love," off her debut solo album, was when she fell for her husband, hip hop mogul Jay-Z. "A lot of the people in the audience would know 'Crazy in Love,' but would not particularly know this is when I met my first love ... my husband," Beyonce said. "There's an actual story behind all of my songs and why I wrote the songs and I wanted to show that." For her Las Vegas performance, the R&B singer-songwriter put together an entirely new show. "I've always wanted to perform in Las Vegas, I've always wanted to do my own show there, because a lot of the icons that I look up to had amazing shows in Las Vegas," she said. "I thought if I'm going to have my own Las Vegas show, it has to be right and it has to have heart and soul and it has to be something memorable." Read more... | ![]() |
